Now you can impart a wide variety of textures to your metal pieces much more easily and with any rolling mill. Rolling Mill Texture Paper is made from thick paper stock that has been laser engraved with patterns that can be transferred to the surface of nearly any non-ferrous metal using your rolling mill and a piece of foam rubber backing. Once transferred, the detail can be enhanced with a patina (see related products below). Each sheet of Laser Texture Paper measures 3" x 6", with a usable area measuring 2-1/2" x 5-3/4". Sheets can be cut into smaller pieces using ordinary scissors and are used just once. The paper can also be used to texture unfired metal clay. The closed cell foam rubber backing material is sold separately and is provided in sheets measuring 9" x 12" x 1/16". One foam sheet can be cut into six 3" x 6" pieces.
Step-by-step Instructions:
- Make sure your metal is fully annealed, clean, and dry
- Cut pieces of texture paper and foam backer slightly larger than your piece of metal
- Adjust your mill rollers so that you can just barely insert your metal and the texture paper between them (without the foam backer)
- Sandwich your metal between the texture paper and the foam backer and insert it into your mill
- Using a slow, consistent motion, roll the sandwiched material all the way through the mill without stopping
